A Joint conventions of the Association of Nepalese in Mid-West America (ANMA) and Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) Concludes at Lexington, KY

A joint conventions of the Association of Nepalese in Mid-West America (ANMA) and Nepalese Association in Southeast America (NASeA) Concludes at Lexington, KY. It was a 3 days event with larger participation from 29 states in the USA.

These conferences play very important role in bringing people of Nepali origin and friends of Nepal under one platform to discuss contemporary topic, and promotion of Nepali culture. The conference was dedicated to one of its founding members Late Prof. Mohan Narayan Shrestha. Prof Shrestha immigrated to the USA in 1965 and taught at Bowling Green for decades. He passed away few years ago.

Participants enthusiastically participated in sessions such as US health Care Policy, Nepal’s Development issues, NRN Association and its role in the development process, Inclusiveness of Indigenous and other marginalized groups in Nepal and Nepali’s development, Women’s Issues, Developing culture of collective investment, Save the Himalayas Campaign, Poetry Recital, Support to Mahabir Pun’s Wireless Nepal Project, Emergency Workforce Development. Disaster Preparedness effort for Nepal, Poetry Festival and many more.

Ambassador of Nepal to USA, Dr. Shankar P. Sharma inaugurated the program and youth leader of Nepal Mr. Yogesh Bhattarai talked about the important role of diaspora in Nepal’s future development. Organizers also presented Nepali cultural programs for two nights. High participation in cultural of young adults born and brought up in USA was a true testament of American Nepalese putting efforts in preserving their language and culture.

The Association of Nepalese in Mid-West America (ANMA) also announced a new executive body in the leadership of Mr. Rajendra Khatiwada. Next convention 2011 is to be held during the labor day weekend in the USA at Atlanta.
