South Plainfield, N.J. — In the auspicious occasion of Dashain, FON-NJ celebrated its annual event at Nanking Banquet by performing Kanya Pooja with Tika, Jamara & goody bags for community girls (kumari kanyas).
In this social event there were more than two hundred families, college students, youths and children were present. Many guests including adopting families were also from the neighboring states of New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina and Nepal.

Sanjeep Pradhan and Sarishma Amatya took the floor and rocked the audience with their super hit songs after the children from Nepali Language & Culture school performed a few wonderful cultural dances. Sanjeep helped regain many musical memories from Nepal and brought friends and families on the dance floor.
During the occasion Assemblyman Upendra J. Chivukula (D-17), who is one of the first Indian-American elected to the New Jersey General Assembly, distributed plaques to three recognized organizations for their social services specifically to the Nepalese community.
Adhikar received recognition for their extraordinary activities for woman & human rights services, Online Radio Himali Swarharu for their online Nepali language & cultural promotion & Ang Chiring Sherpa for promoting and advocating ‘Save The Haimalayas’. Luna Ranjit of Adhikar thanked FONNJ for recognizing and exploring the need of opportunities to collaboratively work in the future. Mr Sherpa, the chief editor of Everest Times and Mr. Poudel, the founder of the Radio program both mentioned to provide their collaborative media services for the New Jersey community.

At the event, the Assemblyman emphasized about the importance of Dussera/Deepawali and such cultural diversity event that encourages to bring children talents & families of the community together. “It is pleasure to be invited at the FON-NJ event and there are many state level opportunities we can explore for 501c non-for-profit organizations,” said Assemblyman Chivukula addressing the audience. He also distributed shields and certificates to the winners of the Soccer Premiere League organized by FON-NJ during this spring.
