Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma
His Excellency Ambassador to the United States of America

Ambassador Dr. Sharma will talk regarding “Development Prospects for Post-Conflict Countries – Case of Nepal”.
He will focus on the Post-Conflict development opportunities by investment of the foreign investors for the Conflict affected countries
around the world, giving an example of Nepal.

Panelist’s brief introduction:
Ambassador Dr. Shankar Sharma has a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Hawaii. He was Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Nepal

from 2002 to 2006. Dr. Sharma also worked as a consultant to the Constitution Committee on “Distribution of Natural Resources, Economic Rights and Public Revenue” in helping to draft the interim-Constitution of Nepal. Dr. Sharma has an extensive experience in government, international institutions and economic research.

Before joining the National Planning Commission as a Member in 1997, he worked as a Senior Economic Advisor, Ministry of Finance, Nepal;

a Senior Economist in the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies, Singapore; and a Research Fellow in the East-West Center, Hawaii. He also served as a

Professor of Economics in the Centre for Economic Development and Administration, Tribhuvan University. As a highest level development planner in Nepal,

Dr. Sharma provided leadership for national planning, policy guidance, programme development and monitoring. He initiated and introduced the

Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper- Nepal and Medium-term Expenditure Framework in Nepal and facilitated inter-agency collaboration for the

economic and human development of the country, while working in the Planning Commission.

Dr. Sudeep Shrestha,
Research Fellow, Johns Hopkins University

Dr. Sudeep Shrestha will be presenting a concept paper on “Investment for Development: A collective investment approach for the sustainable rural health, education and economic development in Nepal”. Dr. Shrestha did his first postdoctoral research in Biomedical Science at Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. Currently he is involved in Nepal nutrition project at
Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
