admin May 7, 2015 0

On May 7, 2015 Council Member Dr. Mathieu Eugene, the Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations, and the Consulate General of Nepal along with community and religious leaders hosted a press conference calling the City of New York, the United States government and the global community to provide Nepal with life-saving supplies and financial assistance in the aftermath of earthquake that devastated the country on April 25, 2015

On the press conference Council Member Dr. Eugene urge to the government of the United States of America to offer Temporary Protected Status (TPS) to Nepali immigrants currently living in the US.
As a native of Haiti, NYC District 40 Council Member Dr. Mathieu Eugene understands why it is very important to grant TPS (Temporary Protected Status) to Nepali immigrants living in the USA. Dr. Eugene’s native country Haiti was devastated by earthquake on 2010, During such natural calamity US government issued TPS to Haitian immigrants so they were able to stay in the US and work & support their family back home.

Similarly many Nepali immigrants who don’t have proper documents are staying in the US but couldn’t go back to Nepal to meet their family. Their houses have been destroyed and families have been died because of deadly earthquake. Now they want to stay in the US and support their family back home. TPS would allow hundreds of Nepali immigrants to stay and work legally in the US.
